InfraLuma™ 850nm Infrared + Red, and Blue LEDs Advanced TripleWave Light for At-Home Oral Wellness
InfraLuma™ by Starlite Smile™ is a TripleWave LED oral care device that combines three distinct light wavelengths — 850nm near-infrared, 635nm red, and 455nm blue — into a single at-home mouth tray. Each wavelength has been independently studied in dental and photobiomodulation research for its potential effects on gum tissue, circulation, bacteria, and oral comfort. InfraLuma™ is a beauty and wellness device, not a medical treatment, but it is built around the same wavelengths explored in that research.

How Each Wavelength Works
850nm Near-Infrared Light — The Deep-Reach Wavelength
Near-infrared light at 850nm sits just beyond the visible spectrum — you won't see it emit, but it penetrates more deeply into soft tissue than visible red or blue light. In photobiomodulation research, 850nm wavelengths have been studied for their potential effects on cellular energy production (ATP), tissue comfort, and circulation in soft tissue. It is a wavelength used in many professional-grade red light therapy panels, and is increasingly being explored in oral wellness contexts. InfraLuma™ is one of the few at-home oral devices to include a spectrometer-verified 850nm infrared output alongside visible wavelengths.
635nm Red Light — The Gum-Comfort Wavelength
Red light at 635nm falls within the visible spectrum and is among the most researched wavelengths in dental photobiomodulation. Studies have explored its potential to support gum tissue comfort, reduce sensitivity, and promote circulation at the gumline. The 630–660nm range is commonly used in low-level laser therapy (LLLT) research focused on periodontal soft tissue. InfraLuma™ uses 635nm — a precise, targeted frequency within that studied range.
455nm Blue Light — The Bacteria & Whitening Wavelength
Blue light at 455nm has been studied for its ability to selectively target certain bacteria found in the oral environment. According to Harvard Magazine, blue LED light therapy represents a discovery with "important implications for preventing and treating periodontal disease." Researchers at the Forsythe Institute have studied blue light's ability to suppress bacteria commonly associated with poor gum health. Separately, 455nm blue light is widely used in professional and at-home teeth whitening protocols as a gel or strip activator.

Who InfraLuma™ Is For
InfraLuma™ is Starlite Smile's most advanced oral light device. It is designed for people who:
- Want all three studied wavelengths in a single device rather than choosing between red-only or red+blue options
- Are specifically interested in the deeper-penetrating properties associated with 850nm near-infrared light
- Maintain an active oral care routine and want a light therapy component that works alongside brushing, flossing, and professional cleanings
- Use whitening gels or strips and want a device that serves double duty for both gum wellness and whitening support

How to Use InfraLuma™
- Place the InfraLuma™ silicone tray comfortably over your teeth and gums before turning it on
- Hold your finger or thumb gently on the power button for 2 seconds to turn on — do not press hard or fast
- 1st touch: Infrared + Red mode (850nm + 635nm) — for gum-support sessions; use 1–2x daily
- 2nd touch: Blue mode (455nm) — for fresh-breath routines or whitening gel/strip activation; use once daily for 10–15 minutes as directed by your whitening product
- The device auto-shuts off after 15 minutes
- Remove the tray, detach it from the base, and hand-wash with mild soap and water — not dishwasher-safe. Do not get the base wet but you can cleanse the base with an alcohol wipe or Q-tip with alcohol.
- Charge as needed via the included USB charger. Red light flashing? The light flashes when charge is needed and while charging; charge until solid red (approx. 2.5–3 hours). Expect 3–5 uses per charge. Cannot be used while charging.
Note on infrared light: The 850nm infrared LEDs are not visible to the naked eye. When using Infrared + Red mode, you will only see the 8 red (635nm) LEDs glowing — this is normal. The infrared output is spectrometer-verified. See video below.
InfraLuma™ does not replace brushing, flossing, or professional dental care.
Frequently Asked Questions About InfraLuma™
What is 850nm infrared light used for in oral care?
Near-infrared light at 850nm penetrates more deeply into soft tissue than visible red or blue light. It has been studied in photobiomodulation research for potential effects on tissue comfort, cellular energy production, and circulation. InfraLuma™ includes 850nm as part of its TripleWave output — making it one of the few consumer oral devices to include a verified infrared wavelength alongside visible light.
What is the difference between red light and infrared light for gums?
Red light at 635nm is visible and is studied primarily for surface-level effects on gum tissue and bacteria at the gumline. Near-infrared at 850nm is invisible to the naked eye and is associated with deeper tissue penetration in photobiomodulation research. InfraLuma™ delivers both simultaneously in its Infrared + Red mode. When using this mode, you will only see the 8 red LEDs glowing — the 16 infrared LEDs are operating but invisible, which is normal and expected. Infrared output is spectrometer-verified.
What does blue light do in an oral care device?
455nm blue light has been studied for its ability to selectively suppress certain oral bacteria. Harvard Magazine has cited research suggesting blue LED light therapy has "important implications for preventing and treating periodontal disease." Blue light at this wavelength is also used as a whitening gel activator in both professional and at-home whitening protocols.
Is InfraLuma™ a medical device?
No. InfraLuma™ is a beauty and wellness device. It is not a medical device and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease or condition. It uses the same wavelengths explored in dental and photobiomodulation research, but those research findings do not apply to this specific product. Always consult your dentist before adding any new tool to your oral care routine.
Can I use InfraLuma™ with whitening gel or strips?
Yes. The 455nm blue light mode is designed to complement whitening gel or strip activation, consistent with how blue light is used in professional whitening protocols. Whitening gel and strips are not included and must be purchased separately. Always follow the instructions on your whitening product.
How often should I use InfraLuma™?
For gum support, use Infrared + Red mode 1–2 times daily for 15 minutes per session. For whitening support, use Blue mode once daily for 10–15 minutes as directed by your whitening gel or strip packaging. InfraLuma™ auto-shuts off after 15 minutes.
My light is flashing red, does it need to be charged?
Yes. InfraLuma™ is a wireless rechargeable device. When it starts blinking red it needs to be charged via the included USB charger. Plug the charger into the device and connect the other end to a USB wall adapter or USB port. The light will continue flashing until it is fully charged. It turns solid red when fully charged (approximately 2.5–3 hours). Expect 3–5 uses per charge. The device cannot be used while charging.
Does InfraLuma™ plug into my phone?
No. InfraLuma™ is wireless and rechargeable — it does not plug into a phone. It charges via a USB charger and operates on its own battery. If you are looking for a plug-in phone-connected device, Starlite Smile's Red Light Device (32X) is a plug-in device that works with most phones and USB power sources — multiple connectors are included.
What is the return and guarantee policy for InfraLuma™?
InfraLuma™ is backed by a one-year replacement guarantee for verified manufacturing defects when purchased directly from Starlite Smile. Because it is an oral hygiene device, it cannot be returned — but defective units will be replaced. This guarantee does not cover damage from misuse or physical breakage after delivery.
